Disney’s Moderate Resorts

caribbean beachCaribbean Beach Resort

The Caribbean Beach resort is broken into five different themes: Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, Aruba and Martinique.

We stayed at this resort during our destination wedding in Disney and loved this resort.  The color and theming makes you feel like you have been whisked away to a tropical paradise.  It is Disney’s largest resort covering more than 200 acres.  It has a 45 acre lake in the middle of the resort and there is a 1.4 mile walking/jogging track that circles the resort.  This resort also sports 7 swimming pools.

This resort is a great place to consider if you are looking for an adult setting that has a tropical island feel.  Just beware that, because of its size, you will do a lot of extra walking which may not appeal, or be possible, with all guests.

Total number of rooms: 2,109

Max Guests per room: 4 (adjoining rooms are available)

Room Size: 300 square feet

Rates: Start at $160 per night – this will vary depending on the ‘season’ you are traveling during and any special promotions Disney may be running.

‘Preferred’ rooms are available for an extra $25 per night.  These are rooms that offer a water view or are closest to the main food court (Trinidad-North and Martinique).

Coronado-SpringsCoronado Springs Resort

The Coronado Springs resort is broken into three different themes: Casitas, Ranchos and Cabanas.

This was one of the first Disney resorts that we ever stayed at.  It has very cool theming which is a mix between Mexican and South-West American.  The rooms were completely refurbished in 2009 giving them a much needed make over (we were there in 2000).  The biggest complaint we heard from many guests was that this resort is home to a very large convention center and thus brings in a lot of extra ‘traffic’.  We did not find this to be very much of an issue but we also did not spend much time at the resort (other than to sleep).

Total number of rooms: 1,921

Max Guests per room: 4 (adjoining rooms are available)

Room Size: 314 square feet

Rates: Start at $160 per night – this will vary depending on the ‘season’ you are traveling during and any special promotions Disney may be running.

port oreleansPort Orleans

Port Orleans is divided into two different main themes: French Quarter and Riverside.

The French Quarter resort is themed with all the charm of New Orleans iconic French Quarter.  This is the smallest of all the moderate resorts and many people say it offers one of the best food courts in all of Disney.

The Riverside resort is broken into two different sub-themes: Magnolia Bend (southern plantation style) and Alligator Bayou (southern Cajun style).

We have stayed at this resort and it is by far our favorite moderate resort.  It should be noted that while listed by many as two separate resorts these two sections (French Quarter and Riverside) are connected which allows for increased amenities.

One of the best amenities that this resort offers that no other value or moderate resort has is a pontoon boat that will take you to Downtown Disney free of charge.  It is a really cool (and relaxing) way to make your way downtown without fighting your way through the Disney bus system.

The small size of this resort coupled with its southern hospitality and charm make it a great option for adult travelers.

Total number of rooms: 2,048 (Riverside) , 1,008 (French Quarter)

Max Guests per room: 4 (adjoining rooms are available)

Room Size: 314 square feet

Rates: Start at $160 per night – this will vary depending on the ‘season’ you are traveling during and any special promotions Disney may be running.
